our story.
KÎSIK Youth Wellness was founded by Carlin Nordstrom, an Indigenous motivational speaker and former NHL player, after spending years traveling into communities and witnessing the challenges many Indigenous and at-risk young people face: insecurity, a lack of direction, and a deep disconnect from their culture and confidence. Driven by his own childhood experiences and a commitment to helping the next generation, he launched KÎSIK's signature Land-Based Wellness Camp.
At each Land-Based Wellness Camp, youth arrive unsure of themselves and their abilities. Over the course of four days, they learn to fish, clean their catch, cook over a fire, challenge themselves physically, and work together as a team. Through land-based learning, mentorship, fitness, and personal development, camp attendees see what's possible beyond the hardships in front of them. Many attendees leave feeling inspired, confident, transformed, and many often want to come back.
KÎSIK Youth Wellness stands as a pathway to a stronger future for Indigenous and at-risk youth. Each year, we support over 150 youth across 12 wellness camps and 4 educational tours. Moving forward, our mission is to support more youth each year and expand our programming to communities throughout Saskatchewan.
